Do you love the sensuality of language? Do the right words warm you up and make your heart beat fast? As women we are more likely to be aroused by reading than looking at images. What if you wrote the beautiful words that move you?
Erotic Writing – def. writing that focuses on the sensations, emotions and experience of sensuality, sexuality, love, and/or romance.
The short definition of ‘erotic’ is ‘of, relating to, or tending to arouse sexual desire or excitement.’ But as writers we know there’s more to it. What is and is not erotic is wholly dependent on the viewer’s culture and personal tastes, yet we know it when we experience it.
What are the elements that incite that awakening of desire? Poet Audre Lorde says “The erotic is a resource within each of us that lies in a deeply female and spiritual plane, firmly rooted in the power of our unexpressed or unrecognized feelings.”
So as you plan and begin to write, call on that power and beauty within you, and let her express herself!
What if you penned a sexy rom-com? A naughty limerick? A fleeting fantasy imagined like a dream? A hot encounter with an alluring stranger? What if you wrote something you never before dared to write?

|Tame. you’d let your mother read this. Even though sex is on characters’ minds, only the politest references and metaphors are used.||Slightly titillating. Plenty of daydreaming, revealing attire, glimpses of skin, whispers and sighs, first base.||More nudity, more action, but avoid explicit penetration and full frontal description. Kinks and fetishes should be mild and playful.||Turn up the heat with all the juicy details! Anything goes!
(well, almost. there’s a list of things most of us NEVER EVER want to read, and even the list is disturbing.)
Choose a Prompt: Circle one (if more than one suggest something to you, go for it!)
|Poetry||Humor||Crime of Passion||Urban||Sexual Fantasy||Gender-
|Supernatural||Gay/ Lesbian||Stranded/ Strangers||Kinks & Fetishes||After Dark|
|Romance||Best Friend||Unexpected Journey||3 or More||The Senses||Historical||
More detail: If you wish, tell us more about what you will be writing: (e.g. “I will write at least 3 naughty limericks” or “I’m writing an adult version of a fairytale.”)
The purpose for this is to help you have a specific writing goal in mind when you sign up!

Some Like it HOT! FAQs:
Q- Do I really need to read all the Guidelines and FAQs?
A- We’d prefer that you read them, pretty please.
Q- Who’s behind this madness? Where will the challenge be held? What can I win?
A- The challenge is run by the Accokeek Women’s Writing Group. The Moderators are Cheryl Holloway, Georgette Littlejohn and Patrise Henkel.
The Finale/Celebration will be held in a private home, so as not to offend the Library. 😉
Entries will be ‘judged’ by an experienced and/or famous erotic fiction writer and there will be prizes for all participants.
Q– Do I have to write about sex?
A– No! You can focus on the sensual, on beautiful language, you can choose a modest rating, the writing is up to you!
Q- Will you publish my erotic story?
A- Not at this time. After the Celebration, should a writer wish to share her work via the AWWG blog at womenspages. wordpress.com, under a pen name or their actual name, this can be arranged. Or should a writer wish to submit her work to a publisher, we will cheer her on!
Q- Do you have a list of “optional” prompts in case someone needs inspiration?
A- Yes. Feel free to adapt, twist, or ignore them entirely. Or ask for more. And remember, using one of these prompts is completely optional.
Q- When will I be able to sign-up?
A- Sign-ups begin May 2
Q- How do I sign up?
A- Sign-up forms will be distributed via email to all AWWG members on May 2 and will be available to download from the web site. Sign-ups are due at the May 9th meeting. You may also submit your form information by email to Patrisehenkel at gmail dot com. All info will be kept completely confidential.
Q- Will people know I signed up for this thing?
A- If you want to submit completely anonymously, mail your entry to: PO Box 882, Accokeek MD 20607.
Q- May I write a song or poetry for my entry?
Q- What if I sign-up and then the muse dries up?
A- There is no penalty associated with not being able to submit an entry. Although the moderators would appreciate knowing if you need to drop out or if you need an extension. We’re all friends here.
Q- When will our submissions be due?
A- Entries are due at the June 13th meeting.
Q- Where should I submit my completed entry?
A- You can submit your entry by email, postal mail or in person at the meeting. Mail to PO Box 882, Accokeek, MD, 20607. By email: Patrisehenkel at gmail dot com or feel free to hand deliver before the deadline.
